Optimal AFL Fantasy Lineup – Post Round 4

Last week we published the Optimal AFL Fantasy Lineup after the first three rounds and we’ll continue to update this throughout the season on a regular basis. The basis of this team is to identify the best scoring starting 22 players who you could have legitimately afforded heading into round 1.

This team will evolve each week as injuries occur and player’s form oscillates. There are some names on this list that started out with high ownership numbers but others that were barely mentioned, however, that’s the interesting part to this piece and makes a great discussion topic.

The table below shows the ins and outs post round 4 scores.

IN

OUT

Dylan Roberton (STK) – DEF  Rory Laird (ADEL) – DEF
Christian Petracca (MELB) – FWD  Lance Franklin (SYD) – FWD
Elliott Yeo (WCE) – FWD  Lin Jong (WB) – FWD
Tom Rockliff (BL) – MID  Adam Treloar (COLL) – MID
Daye Zorko (BL) – MID Dustin Martin (RICH) – MID
Rory Sloane (ADEL) – MID Nathan Jones (MELB) – MID
Tom Mitchell (HAW) – MID Dyson Heppell (ESS) – MID
Luke Shuey (WCE) – MID Jobe Watson (ESS) – MID

The 22 below would have left you enough cash at the start of the season to pad your bench with 8 x $150,000 rookies. The team has scored a total of 9928 (Round 1 – 2349, Round 2 – 2597, Round 3 – 2517 & Round 4 – 2465) over the first four rounds at an average of 2482. The captain for each week is highlighted in the table as green.

If you started with this team you would be comfortably ranked No 1 in Australia by a margin of 996 fantasy points.

Note that no consideration has been given to trades between rounds or moving players on and off the bench, this likely would produce a slightly different side with a slightly higher score. This side is simply the best scoring 22 money could have bought prior to Round 1.
